Oscar De La Hoya is many things, a champion boxer, a Mexican icon, and one of the biggest promoters of the 2010’s decade. One thing he is not, a reliable narrator hence why fans were not sure what to make of an announcement the founder of Golden Boy Promotions made on Twitter regarding the future of the company.

De La Hoya is a former 8-time world champion in Boxing and during his run at the top went face to face with all-time greats like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, and Bernard Hopkins. Since the end of his boxing career though, Oscar developed a serious drug habit that has led to his reputation taking a big hit.

In 2002 the boxer started his own promoting company, the now-famous Golden Boy Promotions, though the promotion is way past its heyday it still is one the most highly recognized promotion in boxing worldwide. Their former clientele includes a list of who’s who ranging from established names like Canelo Alvarez to Amir Khan and newer stars like Errol Spence and Ryan Garcia.

Oscar De La Hoya claims Golden Boy Promotions to be worth over $1 Billion

After their generational talent in Canelo Alvarez left the promotion in favor of working with Eddie Heard and DAZN Boxing, the company has taken a major hit and may explain why De La Hoya posted a cryptic tweet regarding the future of the company.

On Twitter the former eight-time world champion announced his plans for the company saying, ” I’ve made a decision about selling Golden Boy Boxing.” Though Oscar De La Hoya has been open about wanting to sell the promotion for some time now, major updates regarding the same are expected to be revealed inside the four walls of a corporate board room and not on Twitter for everyone to see.

Previously De La Hoya made clear what his intentions behind selling the company were saying, “I can’t wait to get rid of it. And most importantly, I can’t wait to be the very first fighter ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a promoter as well” claiming Golden Boy to have a market value well over 1 billion dollars.

Fans were quick to mock the boxer in the replies alluding that he was on coke marathons again. Do you think Golden Boy will ever be valued over $1 Billion?
