Donald Trump BACKS Mike Tyson on the 1992 rape-conviction trial, says Tyson had WORST defence lawyer
Donald Trump is a combat sports fanatic and therefore truly admires the people associated even in their worst times. The boxing and the MMA community know very well. Trump is the former President of the United States and a representative of The Republican Party whose rise to fame started off by being a business tycoon who has been hitting the front pages and dominating screen presence since the 1990s. Trump is known for his brutal takes on popular subjects of culture and his contentious personality.
Another that has been shining amongst the people, for both clear and contentious reasons, is the one and only boxing’s own icon, Mike Tyson. Tyson is the second youngest world champion recorded in the sport’s history, becoming the heavyweight champion at just the age of 19. Tyson’s wins include the likes of Larry Holmes, Frank Bruno, Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick and many more. He today is a successful YouTuber and a successful entrepreneur dealing in legal psychedelics.

Donald Trump believes that Mike Tyson was wronged and the defence did a ‘horrible’ job
To think that all of Tyson‘s hardest times came to a full stop after becoming the world champion would be a naïve assessment of the American’s life. It was in July 1991 when Desiree Washington, a beauty pageant winner, accused Tyson of raping her. In February 1992, following a 2-week trial that magnetised the media all around the world, Tyson was found guilty of raping Washington. Judge Patricia J. Gifford sentenced him to 10 years in jail but suspended the last four years of the sentence. Tyson was freed in March 1995.
A long time ago on a talk show, Donald Trump gave out his opinion on Tyson’s case and not only did he defend Tyson based on a theory that Tyson was framed by the said victim, but he also blasted down Tyson’s defence team as well, which comprised defence attorney James Voyles and special prosecutor Greg Garrison.
“Mike Tyson was greeted at his door at 1 o’clock in the morning by a woman… it’s just ridiculous the woman was dancing at 8 o’clock and this guy is in the prison, I don’t understand it, I think it was wrong… I think he [Tyson] had one of the worst defence lawyers I’ve ever seen and their defence was essentially anybody that goes out knows she’s gonna be raped… this is their defence. I think it was a horrible job…” said Trump on the show. Trump went on to suggest that the court should’ve given a penalty to make Tyson keep fighting and donating millions of dollars to rape victims instead of making him sit in jail for 6 years.
What did you make of Trump’s perspective on Tyson’s rape case? Do you agree or not? Where do you put Trump amongst the most influential people in the past 30 years? Where do you put Tyson amongst the most ferocious fighters of all time?
