Boise man sentenced to 40 years for second-degree murder
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A Boise man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of 24-year-old Guy Lopez II.
The man, 23-year-old Matthew Crawford, was sentenced on Monday.
Crawford was arrested in March after officials say was an attempted armed robbery. Crawford allegedly asked his friends to help in the attempt.
Police say Lopez was beaten up before he fired a pistol in self-defense. Crawford fired six rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene, police say.
Crawford pled guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement, where the charges of robbery and destruction of property would be dropped. He must serve a minimum of 15 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Crawford was also ordered to pay $16,838 in restitution and a $5,000 civil fine.
“I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Lopez’s family and friends,” said Jan Bennetts, Ada County prosecutor. “Thank you for the quick and impressive response from Boise Police Patrol Officers at the scene that day, and the Boise Police Detectives for their thorough investigation, which allowed my office to ensure justice was served.”
